A.L.L. & CANCER RESEARCH

It was Jacquie's greatest wish that the world would someday be cancer free. We know firsthand the effects that these life threatening diseases have on patients as well as us, the families, friends and loved ones. The Jacquie Hirsch For A.L.L. Foundation is COMMITTED to working towards making her wish a reality, starting with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. In order to begin, we have teamed up with members of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and started a very special project with one of Jacquie's doctors, Dr. Eunice Wang. Dr. Wang, along with Dr. Norma Nowak, Director of the DNA Microarray and Genomics Facility at Roswell Park, will be researching specific samples in an effort ultimatly to find out why patients relapse after bone-marrow transplants and why A.L.L. is so difficult to treat and cure.

The Jacquie Hirsch For A.L.L. Research Fund was established at Roswell Park Cancer Institute with an initial contribution of $10,000 on January 13, 2009. Since that time, another $36,000 had been assigned to the fund and an additional $20,000 was donated at a January 2010 check presentation. At The 2nd Annual Tinker Ball Formal Dinner Dance a $30,000 check was presented to Dr. Nowak, bringing the fund to $100,000. The Annual Cruise Against Cancer has raised $6,000 since its inception, all of which has been donated after our 'cruise' to Roswell Park. December 2010's $25,000 presentation brought us to over $128,000. The purpose of this fund is to subsidize Dr. Wangs' & Dr. Nowaks' research so they can conduct multi-dimensional genomic profiling of acute leukemias characterized by MLL gene rearrangements. Our hope is to one day be able to save another patient from the pain, suffering and loss we experienced with Jacquie by finding answers to the questions that no family should ever have to ask.
